I really thought that there was little more than marketing hype behind shoes. In all of my years of running, I'd yet to run in a pair that I didn't like. I'd run in New Balance, Brooks, Mizuno and most recently, Saucony. I've run in Saucony Grid Omni for the last 4 years. I haven't been able to find the Omnis in my size any where, including online. I took a risk and switched from my Omnis to Asics Gel Nimbus 12. The Omnis were a stability shoe, and though I'd never had a gait analysis done, I just chalked it up to a shoe being a shoe being a shoe.
Ooops. I was wrong.
My first run in the Asics Gel Nimbus was a disaster. For the first little bit I couldn't feel my feet. I adjusted the laces and it made a wee bit of a difference, but in the last kilometer my IT band started acting up. As any runner knows IT band pain is the death knell of running. Maybe it's over training, or the fast that it was my first run in weeks with the stroller and the dog and the kids were rocking around in the stroller, but I'm sore. And I'm 2 1/2 weeks out from my the Cayman Islands Half Marathon.
Unfortunately the Asics were bought from an outlet store and I can't return them. At $120, it's an expensive mistake. So do I give them another shot or dig deep (into my unemployed stay at home mama empty pockets) and pick up a pair of Omnis? And if you're looking to buy a pair of brand new Asics Gel Nimbus 12s for cheap - I'm your girl.

I'm a Sacouny girl but I use the Ride. I find it hard to stray and I end up returning all others. What if you put the shoes on Ebay.....too gross? I would love to run a race in Grand Cayman
The only people I know who can run in Asics are people with long, narrow feet with high arches. I say, try and sell them!

I'm an adidas girl for most shoes these days...after years and years of Brooks and then an epic failure with Saucony.
Any running groups in the area that you can contact about selling your shoes? There has to be someone out there just wishing for a pair of Asics. :)
I've been in your shoes (lame pun intended). The correct shoes definitely make a difference. Good luck finding your perfect shoe and baby that IT for a little while :)
So true, good shoes make all the difference! Just found your blog, and I'm excited to follow along... I am also a running-cloth-diapering-health-conscious mom. :)
