Tour de calves

Though I love riding with my Kawartha Cycling Club team mates, the ride times run in with the kids bedtimes and we're not at the stage where Mr. P can tuck in both kiddos (confession: I nurse Gilly to sleep). Lucky for me, I've reconnected with a girlfriend who is willing to humble me on the mountain biking trails in exchange for bringing her up to speed on road cycling (she is also an endurance sport nut so it is a match made in heaven). On Sunday I opted out of our afternoon team ride to hit the road with Michelle. It was her first extended ride on a borrowed road bike and we tackled close to 50K. (In exchange for me teaching her to road ride, Michelle has agreed to teach me to mountain bike - I'll be humbled on the trails later this week). Though catching up and chatting about motherhood was fun, the real highlight of the ride was this: coming up on a herd of lost heifers.  After snapping this picture of Michelle wrangling the herd I pulled a rookie mistake and forgot to unclip and toppled over and landing in cow poop. I have bizarre cuts and bruises head to toe, but nothing a coffee from my favourite new cafe can't fix.
